Amigurumi Pattern: Baby Kit – Hippo Melman

Today we are pleased to share a new project accompanied by… Don Ovillo – Don Trapillo! Many will already know our adorable hippo Melman, we shared his pattern two years ago to celebrate our 2nd anniversary, and throughout this time, this little hippo became a well-known character in the world of amigurumis 。◕‿◕。Thinking about new projects to share, we have thought of making more designs that could accompany Melman and have had the opportunity to make them thanks to the yarns of Don Ovillo factory. We fell in love with the combination of colors that we could use of their Premium Cotton and so we created the new < MELMAN’S BABY KIT > so that the little ones are raised with a lot of love

We are very happy to collaborate with Don Ovillo. For those who are reading about them for the first time, both Don Ovillo and Don Trapillo are part of the Lanas Gayfil group. Its factory is located in Spain and they have been producing wools and yarns for two generations.

On this occasion, we had the pleasure of trying their wonderful Premium Cotton Yarn and combining delicate colors that you can find in the store www.donovillo.com.
It is a cotton very soft to the touch and easy to work, we test it and have become increasingly convinced that it is one of the best quality cottons – price in the Spanish market.

We welcome the baby kit of our adorable hippo < MELMAN >

Next you’ll find the free step-by-step crochet pattern to make a crochet amigurumis from the <MELMAN’S BABY KIT>, will have the option to download the free PDF to collect only from the original Melman ; his extras of this version, the baby teether/rattle and the blanket will be exclusive to our website and you can enjoy them right here.

If you want to collaborate so we can continue creating new designs, can do purchasing our Premium Patterns in our Etsy Shop, we will be very grateful

* MELMAN *

The pattern of Melman’s amigurumi is found in the post we made 2 years ago here.

This version of Melman has a change and an addition. We have made his inner ears with yarn instead of felt and have added a scarf, it is a new accessory that have placed and that makes it look even more tender … Follow the steps that we will explain below to make his inner ears and new scarf…

… ASSEMBLE MELMAN – BABY BLANKET…

1.- Embroider the eyelids with a yarn of the same color as the head. Give 2 turns over the safety eye. Then embroider with white yarn a line under the safety eye.

2.- Sew on the head (part 1) the head (part 2). To do this, count from the top the head (part 1) until the Rnd.13 (it will be Rnd. under the eyes). Once there, count 12 / 13sc wide and centered with eyes. Use that base to match the top of the head (part 2). Place it between Rnd.14 and 23 and sew.

3.- Sew the nostrils between Rnds. 3 and 4 (counting from the seam under the eyes of part 2 of the head).

4.- Sew the inner ears inside the outer ears.

5.- Sew the ears to the head between Rnds.6 and 7 (counting from the top). Fold the ears a little at the time of sewing them to give them a longer shape.

6.- Sew the already armed head over the center of the arms.

7.- Sew the head / arm assembly in the center of the blanket.

NOTE: To make the assembly, always follow the instructions and the images. It will be much easier to understand the steps.

* TEETHER / RATTLE – MELMAN *

The last project we present today is this tender teether / rattle also starring Melman. Next we will detail the steps to follow …

… HEAD …

For make the head follow the same steps as the baby blanket but changing the silver grey color to light blue. Before finishing crocheting, must be placed the rattle box inside the stuffing to make sound. If you want to be heard louder you can place 2 rattles instead of 1.
Finally, change the light blue color of the inner ears with white.

… PIECE TO JOIN THE RING WITH THE HEAD …

Work in row with light blue color.
Start with: 26 ch + 1 ch to climb (27)
Rows 1 – 10.-
1sc in each st (26)
FO.

… ASSEMBLE MELMAN – TEETHER / RATTLE…

1.- Sew the piece around the wooden ring. If you want more firmness with the head, you can put some glue on the ring, place the piece on the glue and sew. This will prevent the piece from sliding down the ring.

2.- Sew the head centered on the piece sewn to the ring. Take enough surface of the base of the head to sew, so that it is better held.
